  • What is Veeam Intelligence MCP Server?

    Veeam Intelligence MCP Server is a locally deployed, containerized integration component that exposes Veeam Intelligence context to MCP compatible clients in a fully customer-controlled environment.

    The MCP Server runs locally as a Docker container, inside the customer's infrastructure or operational boundary, and acts as a secure bridge between:

    • Veeam Intelligence data and signals
    • Other enterprise systems participating in MCP workflows

    At no point does this architecture require raw operational data to be sent to Veeam AI services by default.

  • What is the Veeam Intelligence MCP security and privacy model?

    Veeam Intelligence MCP follows a secure-by-design and shared responsibility model, aligned with enterprise security expectations.

    The MCP server architecture follows Veeam security and compliance principles. Authentication, authorization, and access control are enforced per environment. Data exposure is bound to the local context and configuration.

    This means the customer controls where the MCP Server runs, which MCP clients can connect, which AI tools, if any, are allowed to consume the context, and the customer defines governance around usage and access.

  • Can customers use a local LLM with Veeam Intelligence MCP Server?

    Veeam Intelligence MCP Server is LLM-agnostic and works with any MCP-compatible client, including clients that are configured to use local or self-hosted LLMs.

    The MCP Server itself does not depend on a specific language model. It simply exposes trusted Veeam Intelligence context through the Model Context Protocol. How that context is consumed and processed is entirely controlled by the MCP client and the customer's chosen AI setup. This allows customers to:

    • Use a locally hosted LLM for inference
    • Use an on-premises or private cloud AI model
    • Apply their own security, data residency, and governance policies end to end
  • Can customers use Claude Desktop specifically?

    Claude Desktop is an MCP-compatible client that:

    • Runs locally on the user's machine
    • Connects to MCP Servers such as Veeam Intelligence MCP
    • Uses Anthropic-hosted Claude models for language generation by default

    Important clarifications:

    • Claude Desktop does not currently run a local LLM
    • The language generation step happens using Anthropic-hosted models
    • The MCP Server continues to run locally as a Docker container under customer control

    Customers who require fully local LLM inference can use other MCP clients that support local or self-hosted models. Veeam Intelligence MCP Server works equally well in those setups.

  • How do Veeam Intelligence and the LLM work together in the MCP?

    This is a critical distinction between the two within the MCP. The language generation is handled by the MCP client's chosen LLM, while the domain intelligence and reasoning context comes from Veeam Intelligence.

    Veeam Intelligence:

    • Performs the deep analysis of backup, recovery, protection, malware, and compliance signals
    • Structures and enriches the operational context
    • Supplies authoritative, environment-aware answers to the MCP workflow

    The LLM is primarily responsible for:

    • Interpreting the user's natural language question
    • Orchestrating queries across MCP servers
    • Presenting the final response in a readable format

    In other words, the LLM does not replace Veeam Intelligence. Veeam Intelligence provides the trusted answers while the LLM provides the conversational interface.

  • Is Veeam Intelligence required to send data to an external LLM?

    No.

    • Veeam Intelligence MCP Server runs locally
    • Data exposure is explicitly controlled by the customer
    • If a customer uses a local LLM, data never leaves their environment
    • If a customer uses a hosted LLM, that choice is explicit and customer-managed

    Veeam does not force or mandate any external AI service.

  • Is Veeam Intelligence a paid AI service?

    No.

    The intelligence surfaced via the MCP Server is offered as a service layer provided by Veeam at no additional cost as part of Veeam Intelligence.
